Its Our Reality



Rules and Eligibility


Who's Eligible:

  1. High School Senior: Must be a high school senior during the 2008-2009 school year, in the United States who plan to further their education at a college/university or certified trade school in the United States. Open to all students in public or private high school and home-schooled students as long as your course of study is equivalent to that of a senior in high school.

    College Undergraduate: Applicant must be enrolled in good standing as an undergraduate student attending an accredited college or university in the United States for the 2008-2009 academic year.

  2. Applicant must be a legal resident of the United States.

  3. Applicant cannot be a employee or relative of "Its Our Reality!" and its' assigned companies.

  4. Essay may be submitted through "Its Our Reality!" website or U.S. Postal Mail. Deadline for submission is March 31, 2009 11:59 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time) whether online or mailed. Mailings must be postmarked by March 31, 2009. Mailing address:

  5. Competition is void where prohibited.
  • "Its Our Reality!" will not award scholarships to entrants who do not meet eligibility requirements.


  • The scholarship can be awarded to the winner or school. Winner is responsible for any taxes. Payment of awards will be contingent upon receipt of verification that the entrant meets all of the eligibility requirements.


  • "Its Our Reality!" Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, or national origin.



  • Rules:
    1. There is no cost to enter the essay competition.

    2. Only one essay entry may be submitted during any given competition period.

    3. Any individual having previously won an "Its Our Reality! Scholarship may not enter another competition for one full year after winning.

    4. Each participant should and is responsible for reading the rules and eligibility requirements.

    5. Participants must write on the official topic.

    6. Each entry must include a Cover Page which includes your name, address, phone number and state whether you are a high school senior or college undergraduate. All pages should be stapled together and no names should be included on the essay page(s). (see judging and scoring below)

    7. Mail-in essays must be legible and double spaced.

    8. Essays must be written in English. Essays must contain at least 100 words but no more than 200 words. Every word of the essay is counted. This does not include the title, bibliography or footnotes.

    9. Any quotations or copyrighted material used in the essay must be identified properly. Failure to identify non-original material will result in disqualification.

    10. All submitted essays become the property of "Its Our Reality!" and may be used for publicity, publication, or as content for its web site. Applicants' names may also be used for publicity purposes. "Its Our Reality!" will have the right to edit, publish or otherwise duplicate any essay entered into the competition without payment to the author.

    11. "Its Our Reality!" is not responsible for entries not received for any reason. We reserve the right to cancel or amend any Competition, these Rules or any Specific Rules at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be posted either within these Rules or the Specific Rules or on this website. We may at any time, without notice, issue further terms and conditions to be read in conjunction with these Rules and any Specific Rules that may apply.



    Judging

  • Judging will be completed by a panel of qualified judges.


  • In an effort to conceal the identity of each participant, each entry will be assigned a number by the Essay Chair. The assigned number will be placed on the title page and first page of the essay. The title page will then be detached and retained by the Essay Chair. The judges will be given the essay bearing only the assigned number.
  • Judges will not discuss or compare essays being judged until all essays have been judged.

  • Only judges can assign a penalty or award points.



  • Scoring of Essay

    Scoring procedures at all levels of the competition will be identical. Because the essays are based on the participants ideas and suggestions, there are no right or wrong answers.

  • Material Organization (Logical, interpretation of the subject, adherence to topic): 30 points


  • Vocabulary and Style (Phrasing and continuity): 20 points


  • Feasibility of idea or suggestion: 20 points


  • Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling: 10 points


  • Neatness: 5 points


  • Adherence to scholarship rules (prepared in the proper format): 5 points


  • Early submission: .05 points for each week submitted before deadline, up to 6 points


  • Judges discretion: 4 points, explained



  • Scholarship Awards

  • High School Senior: $500

  • College Undergraduate: $500

    Before scholarship funds will be awarded, all information submitted by the student will be verified. If ANY false or misleading information is submitted, the student will be disqualified without notification to the student.

    Winners will be notified by email or mail no later than six weeks after deadline. Winners will be announced on the "Its Our Reality!" website(s). We will make every attempt to notify participant. If after eight weeks, scholarship cannot be awarded, the scholarship will be awarded to runner-up essay.

    "Its Our Reality!" reserves the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, extend or suspend the competition. We request a minimum of fifty entrys per scholarship.
